adoption / foster

Before completing the adoption / foster application form please read the following

Adoption

  • Applicants must be aged 21 or over.
  • Have you researched the breed?  (Dachshunds are intelligent, inquisitive, courageous little hunters who make wonderful companions but can suffer with back issues, separation anxiety and reactivity as well as being quite noisy!)
  • Have you discussed taking on a rescue Dachshund with all members of the household and ensure that they are all 100% committed and ready to take on a dog?
  • It is likely that visitors will need to keep away from the home for a while to let the dog settle. Are you able to do this?
  • All dogs adopted through the charity go to their new homes with 4 weeks free insurance cover. We advise all adopters to continue with insurance and to obtain their own quotes for the cover. Dachshunds can suffer with back issues and surgery is very expensive. Do you have the time and patience to help a dog through recovery if this was to happen?
  • Are you able to afford the usual costs associated with owning a dog such as yearly vaccinations, monthly flea and worm treatments, food, grooming visits, belongings for the dog etc?
  • Do you have an area in your home where the dog can rest quietly?
  • Would you be prepared to work with a dog that started to display behavioural issues?
  • Dachshunds can suffer with separation anxiety especially when they go to a new home. If the dog is known to have separation anxiety it will only be rehomed to people who are at home the majority of the time.

If you have any queries before completing the adoption application form please get in touch through the contact us page.

If you have read the points listed and wish to apply to adopt a Dachshund the adoption application form below should be completed.

Foster

There are two situations for which Suloti Dachshund Support will offer foster care.

  • For Dachshunds whose owners are unable to care for their dog for a period of time to include owner illness or time in hospital.
  • For Dachshunds that have been surrendered to us for rehoming and are awaiting a new home.

Would you be able to:

  • Act quickly in an emergency situation if necessary?
  • Be prepared to work with a dog if it had behavioural issues.
  • Provide regular updates to the charity.

If you have any queries before completing the adoption application form please get in touch through the contact us page.
