Our volunteers provide essential support to Dachshunds and their owners helping them through difficult times.
Whether it’s helping them to decide if they should go ahead with finding a new home for their beloved Dachshund and if so finding the best possible home for the dog, providing emotional support for owners whose Dachshunds are suffering with a medical issue and arranging for loan of equipment to help them, fostering a dog or simply helping and advising owners with Dachshund related enquiries.

Volunteer roles and how you can help
Carrying out essential home checks and obtaining references for prospective adopters when they have been matched with a Dachshund. These are carried out either in person or virtually and are a very important part of the rehoming process.
Transporting a Dachshund to their new home. This can be an emotionally challenging task and we ask that volunteers are able to remain patient, calm and show kindness to the owners relinquishing their dog. It is also important that the volunteer is prepared to deal with a dog that could also be very upset in this situation and not displaying its usual behaviour.
Foster Care. Fostering a dog is a very rewarding way to volunteer but can also be very challenging. Therefore this role requires dedication to the dog and this role is just open to people who are at home the majority of the day and have previous experience of Dachshund ownership. This role can however provide an incredible opportunity have a life changing impact on the dog.
Short term and flexible volunteering
We are always looking for volunteers to help us at events, fundraising, social media and arrange for the delivery/return of equipment on loan. These roles only require a few hours at a time so whatever your schedule, there is a way for you to volunteer with Dachshunds.
Requirements and volunteer skills
Personal qualities we look for
- You are 21 or over
- Have current or previous experience with Dachshunds
- Possess a kind, caring and understanding nature towards dogs and people
- Remain calm and compassionate in emotional situations
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Practical requirements
- Hold full UK driving licence
- Be able to use email and complete online forms
- Volunteers are unpaid, though reasonable expenses will be reimbursed
All of our volunteers receive thorough training and ongoing support so they can feel confident and capable in their roles.
